Here's a look back at the last week in Hewitt-Trussville High School sports.
SOFTBALL
The Hewitt-Trussville softball team won the Class 7A East Regional last Thursday, to advance to the state tournament.
The Huskies won both games to take the first qualifier bid. They began the day with a 9-2 win over Thompson, striking for 5 runs in the first inning and never looking back. Hannah Dorsett led the way for the Huskies, notching 3 hits, including a triple, a run batted in, and a pair of stolen bases. Lexie Kelly hit a pair of doubles and knocked in a run, while Gracie Reeves and AhKeela Honeycutt each had 2 hits and 2 RBIs in the game. Sara Phillips fired a complete game, allowing a pair of runs on 4 hits over 7 innings.
Hewitt-Trussville took care of business in the second game, beating Spain Park 7-3 to take the regional title. Olivia Faggard was big at the plate, finishing a home run shy of the cycle. She racked up 3 hits, including a double and a triple, and drove home 3 runs. Kelly, Reeves and Phillips all finished with 2 hits and an RBI. Phillips threw 5 2/3 innings in relief, allowing an unearned run on 3 hits, striking out 10 batters as well.
Hewitt-Trussville will play in the state tournament at Choccolocco Park in Oxford this Friday and Saturday.
GOLF
The Hewitt-Trussville girls golf team finished third at the Class 7A, North Sub-State Tournament last Monday at Timberline Golf Course in Calera. Huntsville won the tournament with a team score off 222, followed by Grissom with 226. Hewitt-Trussville fired a 229 and Spain Park was fourth with a 235.
Morgan Hopper and Aubrey Payne both qualified for state as individuals, as Hopper shot a 73 and Payne fired a round of 75 to finish third and fourth overall.
