Here's a look back at the last week in Hewitt-Trussville High School sports.
BASEBALL
The Hewitt-Trussville baseball team began play last week with a dominant 12-1 win over Boaz. Colby Durden earned the win on the mound for the Huskies. Grayson Pope and Jack Ollis led the way for the offense, as Pope registered a pair of hits and 3 runs batted in, while Ollis hit a double and a triple and also knocked in 3 runs. Brett Moseley had 2 hits and an RBI, while Kurt Kizer hit a double and also drove in a run. Rob Wright had a hit and an RBI of his own.
Hoover pulled off an 11-5 win over Hewitt-Trussville last Tuesday. For the Bucs, Andrew Pitts led the way. He hit a double and drove in 3 runs, and threw 3 scoreless innings. Camdyn Teague had a pair of hits and drove in 3 runs as well. Devin Lee had a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Cade Carr had 2 hits and 2 RBIs, while Caid Finn and Jaxson Wood knocked in a run each. Colin Rengering went 2-for-4 as well. For the Huskies, Drew Ollis went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Colby Durden and TJ Chappell each notched a pair of hits and an RBI, while Brett Moseley knocked in a run as well.
Hoover and Hewitt-Trussville played once again Wednesday, with the Bucs taking a 14-13 win. Mason Blasche hit a home run and scored 4 runs for the Bucs. RJ Hamilton tallied 3 hits, drove in a pair of runs, and stole 4 bases in the game. Will Lawrence went 4-for-4 with 4 RBIs, while Rengering, Lee and Brewer Smith each drove in a pair of runs. Carr scored 3 runs and Teague knocked in a run. Alberto Gomez threw 3 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits. For the Huskies, Carson Wideman led the way with a 4-for-5 game, hitting a double and driving in a pair of runs. Kurt Kizer was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs. Chappell knocked in a pair of runs, Durden had an RBI, Ollis scored 3 runs and Brett Moseley hit a triple.
Hewitt-Trussville got a win Friday, cruising past Southside 16-5. Will Argo earned the win on the hill for the Huskies. Pope led the offense with 3 hits, contributing 2 doubles and 2 RBIs to the effort as well. Moseley went for a pair of hits, including a triple, and 3 RBIs. Chappell and 2 hits and 2 RBIs, Wright had 2 hits and an RBI, Kizer and Jack Ollis each knocked in 2 runs and Drew Ollis finished with 2 hits as well.
SOFTBALL
The Hewitt-Trussville softball team pulled off an impressive 3-2 win over Hartselle last Tuesday. Gracie Reeves drove in 2 of the runs for the Huskies. Kate Hicks threw the complete game, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits in 7 innings. She struck out 5 batters as well. Hartselle’s Katie Norgard hit a solo home run, and Blayne Godfrey struck out 14 hitters across the complete game.
Hewitt-Trussville blew out area foe Chelsea 13-0 on Thursday. Sara Phillips led the charge for the Huskies, as she hit a home run and threw a no-hitter in the circle. Phillips struck out 12 batters in 6 innings. Makaila Hope also hit a homer, while Chaney Peters doubled and drove in 3 runs. Zaylen Tucker had 2 hits, 2 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Olivia Faggard was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Ryleigh Wood went 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs.
SOCCER
The Hewitt-Trussville boys soccer team suffered a 3-2 loss to Thompson last Monday.
The Vestavia Hills girls soccer team beat Hewitt-Trussville 3-1 last Tuesday.
Both Hewitt-Trussville teams were in action Wednesday, with the boys beating Boaz 5-1 and the girls knocking off Shades Valley 8-0.
Hewitt-Trussville’s boys played in the Smoky Mountain Cup over the weekend, winning all three matches. The Huskies beat Grace Christian 3-0 on Friday. On Saturday, they knocked off Shelbyville 3-0 and beat Wren 2-0.
TRACK AND FIELD
The Hewitt-Trussville outdoor track and field team competed at the Over the Mountain Invitational last Saturday in Homewood.
Brianna Beckham won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.13 seconds, while also winning the 200 in 24.97 seconds. Avery Cahoon won the 800 in 2 minutes, 17 seconds. Tori Mack was the best in the 100-meter hurdles, running the race in 14.66 seconds. Haley Melton won a pair of events, going 16 feet, 6.5 inches in the long jump and 34-7 in triple jump. Madisyn Hawkins also won discus, throwing it 122-6.
For the boys, Wes Ellison won the 1,600 in 4:24. Daniel James won the pole vault, clearing 13-6. Blake Barlow took the top prize in javelin, throwing it 157-6. DJ Carter won shot put with a throw of 54 feet as well. The 4x100-meter relay team won in 42.29 seconds.
Also reaching the podium for the girls were Jayda Hammonds (second in 100 and second in 200), Hailey Tolbert (third in 400), Haven White (third in 100 hurdles), Mack (second in 300 hurdles), Catherine Asbury (second in high jump), Audre Benson (third in triple jump), Haleigh Chambers (third in javelin) and Hawkins (second in shot put).
Boys reaching the podium were Michael Igbinoghene (second in 100, second in triple jump and third in long jump), Jadon Loving (third in 100), Malachi Johnson (second in 200), Colin Wadsworth (third in 200), Manny Cazeau (second in 400, second in 300 hurdles and second in 110 hurdles), Tyrone Reese (third in 400, third in 300 hurdles and third in 110 hurdles), Ellison (third in 3,200), Jamal Hobbs (second in high jump), Dylan Cope (third in high jump), Carter (second in discus) and Skyler Carrillo (third in discus).
