Here's a look back at the last week in Hewitt-Trussville High School sports.
BASEBALL
The Hewitt-Trussville baseball team earned a 1-0 win over Cullman last Tuesday. Colby Durden threw the complete game shutout, allowing just 5 hits and striking out 10 batters. Rob Wright notched game-winning hit in the fifth inning, scoring Sam Scarborough. Kurt Kizer and Jack Ollis also delivered hits for the Huskies in the game.
Hewitt-Trussville fell to Oxford 4-2 on Friday.
The Huskies picked up a 7-3 win over Southside-Gadsden on Saturday. Ryan Davis got the win on the mound, striking out 6 batters in his outing. Will Argo earned the save, striking out 3. Grayson Pope finished with 2 hits and 2 RBIs, while Wright had 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Kizer had a hit an RBI, while Drew Ollis, TJ Chappell and Colby Durden each added hits.
SOFTBALL
The Hewitt-Trussville softball team beat Spain Park 10-3 in an area contest last Tuesday. The Huskies were led by Hannah Dorsett and AhKeela Honeycutt offensively, as each hit a home run in the game. Honeycutt knocked in 4 runs, while Dorsett drove in a pair. Gracie Reeves tallied 3 hits and drove home a run, while Kate Hicks went the distance in the circle. She surrendered just 3 runs on 5 hits in 7 innings of work. Teagan Huey provided Spain Park’s offense, hitting a 3-run homer.
SOCCER
The Hewitt-Trussville boys and girls soccer teams returned to the field last Tuesday for area matchups against Oak Mountain. Both teams suffered tough one-goal losses, with the boys falling 2-1 and the girls losing 1-0.
Hewitt-Trussville’s girls defeated Thompson 3-0 on Thursday.
TRACK AND FIELD
The Hewitt-Trussville outdoor track and field team competed in the Homewood Invitational last Saturday. Brianna Beckham won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.15 seconds. Tori Mack won the 100-meter hurdles, finishing that in 14.7 seconds. The boys 4x100-meter relay team won its race in 42.36 seconds.
Avery Cahoon placed second in the 400-meter dash and the 800, the girls 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams each finished second and Madisyn Hawkins was second in shot put. Wes Ellison was third in the 1,600, the boys 4x400 relay was second and Michael Igbinoghene finished second in triple jump.
