The Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club recently announced its Don Haisten Student of the Month and Teacher of the Month for March.
The Student of the Month is Elizabeth Schroeder from Hewitt-Trussville High School. Schroeder is a senior and is involved in math team, Ambassadors, choir, theatre productions, National Junior Honor Society and Scholars Bowl. She is currently involved with two choirs (HTHS concert and Trussville Community), HTHS Scholars Bowl, the HTHS and YMCA swim teams, and a few book clubs (online and in person). She has received the honor of membership in National Junior Honor Society, awards for Ambassadors, choir, and all As for all years at HTMS. She also received a medal for the 2022 All-State Middle School Choir, and medals in State Choral Performance Assessment ratings with the middle school choir.
In her leisure time, Schroeder likes to read, mostly for fun, but sometimes for educational purposes. She also goes to swim practice four days a week. She is learning to crochet. On the weekends, she does her homework and goes on outings.
Her selection for Teacher of the Month is Miriam Vinson, her seventh grade English teacher.
“Mrs. Vinson supported me as a student and helped me to reach my full potential. She was a very kind teacher and made learning very fun,” Schroeder said.
It is believed Vinson is the first retired teacher to be selected as a Teacher of the Month, a deeper indication of the impact she had on Schroeder's education.
