May 7: Friends of the Trussville Library Meeting. 11 a.m. to noon. This group’s members support library staff by providing extra hands for special events and money for programs and prizes. Ages 18 and older.
May 11: Adult Book Club. 2-3 p.m. An adult book club focusing on books from a variety of genres. From fantasy to contemporary fiction and everything in between, come join us at the library on the first Saturday of every month. This month’s title is “The Seed Keeper” by Diane Wilson. Ages 18 and older.
May 11: Books and Brews. 7:15-8:30 p.m. An evening book club meeting at Ferus Artisan Ales. This month’s title is “Starter Villain” by John Scalzi. Ages 18 and older.
May 13: Crafty Collective. 5:30-7:30 p.m. Join us as we use fabric paint and stamps to make a beautiful cane pattern napkin. The library will provide supplies. Ages 18 and older.
May 14 and 16: Library 101. May 14, 10-11 a.m., and May 16, 6-7 p.m. This orientation will show you the basics of what the Trussville Public Library has to offer and how you can access it. Free canvas tote and goodies. All ages.
May 15: Hello Hydrangeas. 11 a.m. to noon. Led by Irondale resident David Doggett, an advanced master gardener who tends the hydrangea beds at Aldridge Gardens and is the current president of the Alabama Hydrangea Society. This one-hour program is an overview of the most popular types of hydrangeas (oakleaf, French, panicle and wild hydrangeas) and gives guidance on plant placement, plant care, fertilizing and bloom color. Ages 18 and older.
May 16: Understanding Medicare. 1-2 p.m. Educational seminar about Medicare options. Registration is required. Ages 18 and older.
May 17: Classic Cinema. 2-4 p.m. Come and watch classic movies in the library auditorium. On the third Friday of every month, we'll be showing a movie released before 1970. Popcorn and snacks will be provided. This month’s movie is “Pride and Prejudice,” starring Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier. Registration is required. Ages 18 and older.
May 28: Red Cross Blood Drive. 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Every unit we donate at our blood drive can help save up to three lives. Ages 18 and older (age 17 can participate with parental consent).
May 31: Summer Reading Kickoff. 5-7 p.m. Join us in the Masonic Park located behind the library building for activities and treats for all ages. Information about the Summer Reading Challenge and upcoming events available for pick-up. All ages.
