The Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club recently announced its Don Haisten Student of the Month and Teacher of the Month for September.
Layne Rutledge is a junior at Hewitt-Trussville High School. She plays varsity volleyball and is a member of the National Honor Society, Peer Partners and the Junior Board. She made the A-honor roll and was the top Spanish student in eighth grade. In her spare time, Rutledge enjoys hanging out with her friends and family, and she also enjoys reading.
Rutledge chose as her Teacher of the Month, Brookelyn Bolton, her Spanish teacher.
"Mrs. Bolton is the most encouraging teacher I have ever had,” Rutledge said. “She has opened up many opportunities for me to learn and experience Spanish culture along with learning the language.”
The club has also recently inducted several new members.
On Sept. 27, new members Patrick Martin and Jim Kirkland were inducted. Both employed with Trussville City Schools, Martin is the system's Superintendent and Kirkland is the Chief Financial Officer.
On Oct. 11, Marlene Sunnasy transferred in from a Rotary Club in Aurora Benoni, South Africa.
The Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club meets at 7 a.m. on Wednesday mornings at First Baptist Church Trusville. For more information on the Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club, or to help with one of its projects, please email Diane Poole at dlpoole1225@gmail.com.
