Wildgoose Garden and Pottery shop, located in the Amari Curb Market, offers houseplants, potting plants, gardening tools, pottery and home decor.
Long-time Trussville residents may remember that the green building diagonal to Marco’s Pizza on Glenn Avenue was once Tamburro’s Italian restaurant. While a new iteration of Tamburro’s has opened on Chalkville Mountain Road, the green building is now the site of Amari Curb Market, a multi-retail space that houses shops like Wildgoose Garden + Pottery.
Wildgoose Garden is owned by local Lauren Scott and her mother, Sonia.
“Growing up, Mom always had an amazing garden,” Scott said. “She was out in the yard all the time.”
The shop’s name is a tribute to Scott’s grandparents’ South Carolina farm, The Wildgoose. A generation prior, her great-grandparents owned a floral shop.
“That tradition has been passed down to me, and I can truly say we are a family where green runs deep,” she said.
Since opening in 2021, Wildgoose has been filled with an ever-changing variety of indoor and outdoor botanicals. In addition, Wildgoose Garden carries handmade items — many created by local Birmingham artists — including clean candles, small-batch farmhouse chocolates, Turkish rugs and one-of-a-kind decor pieces.
“We love to support other small businesses and makers whenever we can,” Scott said. “We feature several local potters, some who started as students in our pottery classes.”
Scott teaches ongoing and seasonal pottery classes at Wildgoose with her friend Josh Miller. The two have hosted workshops on making everything from luminaries to pie plates, and classes often sell out quickly.
“Pottery is literally for everyone — from Type-A accountants to free-thinking flower children,” Miller said. “Each class we offer focuses on a single project, which you can do by the book or get wild with it. We give folks the opportunity to play without the pressure to perform.”
At Amari Curb Market’s themed Saturday pop-up markets, Scott teams up with owner Ambre Amari to plan Chicago-style street festivals with live entertainment, art demos and unique photo ops.
“The vision for the market is inspiring people,” said Amari, who is an editorial and lifestyle photographer. “I want to bring them an experience they may not have had somewhere else. I want them to meet somebody or talk to somebody they may not otherwise have had a conversation with. It’s really beautiful to see that happen.”
“This is a beautiful, growing community,” Scott said. “Our hope is to add life to it, whether that’s with plants, pottery or special events that bring the community together.”
