The Alabama High School Athletic Association held its annual All-Star week in Montgomery this past week, July 15-19.
The week is an opportunity for coaches and athletic administrators around the state to congregate for clinics, banquets and other events. Rising seniors were selected to play in all-star games in each sport.
Here is a look at how the Hewitt-Trussville High School athletes selected fared in their all-star opportunities. Each of the Huskies athletes played on the North teams, competing against South all-stars.
Christian Helmers started and pitched the first three innings for the North baseball team. He allowed four hits, one run, no walks and struck out two.
Ashlyn Howard scored eight points for the North girls basketball team in a dominant 87-46 win.
Morgan Hopper paired with Westminster Christian’s Lucia Perez, falling to the South duo of Pike Road’s Lauryn Leonard and Alabama Christian’s Evelyn Tankersley 13-5. However, the North team won the golf competition 51-39.
Asher Tharp had a shot on goal in the North boy soccer team’s 4-1 win.
Libby Armstrong had a shot on goal in the North girls soccer team’s 4-1 win.
Zaylen Tucker was named the MVP of the North softball team. She went 2-for-2 in the first game, following that up with a 2-for-2 with three runs batted in performance in the second game.
Riley Edwards paired with Sardis’ Jayden Johnson and defeated Houston Academy’s Kenza Bilbeisi and Providence Christian’s Owen Thompson, 6-2, 6-1, in tennis.
