Stylists at Salon Blonde style their customer’s hair.
When Jennifer Hood moved to Springville from Tennessee eight years ago, she knew she would eventually open another hair salon.
In December 2018, she became a salon owner once again, opening Salon Blonde in Trussville at the former GiGi’s Cupcakes space on Highway 11. She liked the location of the space since it’s right off the interstate and there aren’t many hair shops on that side of town. After taking over the space in October, Hood began the remodeling process.
Hood said she got the idea for the name of her business after seeing it years ago on another shop in Tennessee. She chose a modern theme for the salon space and said it feels comfortable and welcoming.
“Our staff is very knowledgeable and the atmosphere is friendly and upbeat,” she said.
Hood assembled her staff from stylists she had previously worked with and then added two more to her team. She still has two empty chairs to fill, for a total of 10, but hasn’t found the right people yet.
“I have been really picky,” she said. “I’ve turned down few people that could have already filled those chairs, but I would like for them to have experience.”
Experience is something that Hood and her staff have plenty of. She and three staff members each have over 25 years of experience working as hair stylists.
Hood added that while some salons have gotten away from doing hair for special occasions, Hood and her staff do hair for many wedding parties and proms.
“Several of us go to the venues to do it,” she said. “There will be three stylists doing the hair for the wedding party.”
Not just for women, the stylists at the salon do men’s and children’s cuts. One of the stylists also specializes in ethnic hair.
Other services on their menu include blowouts, upstyles, perms, deep conditioning treatment, coloring, highlights, balayage, hair extensions, gloss toner, Olaplex treatment and brow waxing.
Hood said business has been good since their opening and they’ve been received well in the community. In case customers don’t have an appointment, walk-ins canbe accommodated.
“The new girls I hired mainly take walk-ins,” she said. “We don’t turn away people, we just make it work, but appointmentsare appreciated.”
