Exterior work is underway for a new restaurant, Ironstone Pizza at 5445 Patrick Way in Homestead Village.
A Birmingham-based pizza eatery just may have the right sauce for Trussville.
“The whole concept of IronStone is geared around fresh and create-your-own food,” said Jim Walsh, director of operations of IronStone Concepts. “We have a counter-service approach in preparing pizzas.”
Helmed by owner Bill McPherson, who loved the Birmingham area, the restaurant features the design-your-own pizza concept at all locations.
IronStone is preparing to open its doors later next month. The restaurant, located in Homestead Village at 5445 Patrick Way, will specialize in wood-fired pizza.
One of the first things customers will notice when they walk through the door is the fire in the stone hearth oven. Walsh said the oven is hot enough to cook any custom-made pizza in three to four minutes.
“We set the oven to around 570 degrees. Once we make your pizza, we will stick it into the oven,” Walsh said. “In three or four minutes, it is coming out to you.”
Walsh said the stone oven not only provides a good presentation for a pizza, but also maintains its temperature throughout the cooking process and evenly cooks the crust.
“We did a lot of research in California,” Walsh said. “We looked at 30 different pizza concepts in a matter of two or three days. Our goal was to go with a crust that had both a crunch and had a chew.”
IronStone’s Trussville location will add beer and wine to its menu options. Walsh said the store will stock up to 12 beers ranging from local brands, such as Good People and Avondale, but will stock by popular demand. Walsh said they will explore the local breweries coming to Trussville to have events.
“In Vestavia Hills, we have worked it out with surrounding breweries to come out for a tasting,” Walsh said. “Since the new breweries, such as Slag Heap, are coming to Trussville, we would surely reach out to them and ask if they would pair some beers with pizza or have tasting events.”
IronStone has three locations in Alabama, including Vestavia Hills, Hoover and Trussville, and one coming soon to Mississippi.
