Cahaba Lamp Lighting
The Cahaba Homestead Heritage Foundation will host a Lamp Lighting Countdown Sunday, Oct. 6 on the quad in front of Cahaba Elementary School.
This family-friendly event will begin at 6 p.m. and last approximately 30 minutes. At 6:30 p.m., the public will countdown and four original Cahaba Village streetlamps will light up for the first time in 50 years.
The Cahaba Homestead Heritage Foundation will serve free pizza and doughnuts from Hero Doughnuts & Buns while they last.
This lamp restoration project was conceived by longtime resident Bob Davis. It included four original Cahaba Village streetlamps provided by the Davis, Peoples, and Lancaster families. The electric lamps, which were removed in the 1970s, were repaired, rewired, and powder-coated over the summer by the Cahaba Homestead Heritage Foundation, a local nonprofit and recent recipient of a grant from the Alabama Historical Commission. CHHF worked closely with City of Trussville officials and Trussville Parks and Recreation on the project. Huffman Electric installed the streetlamps.
The mission of the Cahaba Homestead Heritage Foundation, Inc., is to support through education, outreach and civic involvement such things that promote, perpetuate and enhance the value of the community as a historic district designated on the National Register of Historic Places.
