BASEBALL

The Hewitt-Trussville baseball team was defeated in the Class 7A quarterfinals by Hoover last Friday.

The Huskies fell in the first game 2-1 and dropped a 3-1 decision in the second game.

The Huskies spent much of the season as the top-ranked team in 7A and completes the season with a record of 28-6.

SOFTBALL

The Hewitt-Trussville softball team won the Class 7A, Area 6 tournament last week at Spain Park.

The Huskies squeaked past Vestavia Hills 2-1 in the opening round of the tournament. Jenna Lord homered and knocked in both runs for the Huskies, supplementing a great pitching performance from Sara Phillips. She allowed just one run on five hits with seven strikeouts in a complete game performance.

Hewitt-Trussville clinched its spot at the regional tournament this week with a 7-4 win over Spain Park on Thursday. Kenleigh Cahalan led the charge with two home runs, both of them flying out to left center field. She finished with four runs batted in. Anyce Harvey tacked on a homer of her own, knocking in two more. Tori Hyde went 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits.

Hewitt finished off the tournament Friday with a dominant 21-6 win over Vestavia Hills in the area championship game. Cahalan blasted two more homers and drove in six runs. Harvey hit another homer as well and finished with four RBIs. Hannah Dorsett tallied four hits and three RBIs, while Katelyn Murphy finished with three hits and an RBI. Rubie Simon went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and four runs scored. Sarah Hindman was sharp in the circle, finishing with one run allowed on three hits in three innings.

The Huskies will play in the East Central Regional in Montgomery this Friday.

GOLF

The Hewitt-Trussville boys golf team won the Class 7A North Sub-State tournament last Thursday. The Huskies shot a team score of 304 to edge Vestavia Hills by four strokes, flipping the standings from the week prior when Vestavia won the section tournament.

Leading the way for the Huskies were Ethan Hacker and Stuart Dickson, who each shot a 73. Gavin Isbell fired a 76, Cole Davidson finished with an 82 and Austin Freeman shot an 88.

Hewitt-Trussville’s girls came up a spot shy of qualifying for the state tournament, finishing third in the sub-state tournament. But Molly Davidson qualified for the state tournament as an individual.

The state tournament is this Monday and Tuesday at Magnolia Grove in Mobile.
