Here's a look back at the last week of Hewitt-Trussville, Clay-Chalkville and Pinson Valley high school athletics.

BASEBALL

The Hewitt-Trussville baseball team persevered and won its Class 7A quarterfinal playoff series at James Clemens last weekend.

Hewitt and James Clemens split the first two games Friday night, James Clemens rallying to win the first one 6-5 and the Huskies responding to win the second one 3-0.

In the first game, Riley Quick hit a three-run home run in the first inning to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead. Brett Moseley and Jack Ollis scored in the second inning to extend the lead to 5-0. The Jets rallied for five runs in the final two innings to take the opening game.

In the second game, Baker Green got the win as he pitched a complete game. Green only gave up two hits and struck out 12 batters. Kurt Kizer and Riley Quick had first inning RBIs to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead. Baker Green added a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

Hewitt-Trussville earned an 8-0 win in the third game to advance to the semifinals for the seventh time in school history. Logan Phillips pitched a complete game and did not give up a run. Phillips allowed four hits and struck out five batters.

The Huskies got on the board in the third inning as they plated three runs. Kizer singled to score Ollis for the first run of the game. Later in the inning, Brooks McRae doubled to score Kizer and Quick. Hewitt added to the lead in the fourth inning. Ollis was hit by a pitch and later scored on an error. Kizer then doubled to score Ethan Duhon. The Huskies would add three insurance runs over the next two innings.

Hewitt-Trussville will host Vestavia Hills this weekend in the semifinals. A Friday doubleheader is set to begin at 4:30 p.m., with an if-necessary game three on Saturday at 1 p.m.

SOFTBALL

The Hewitt-Trussville softball team hosted and won the Class 7A, Area 6 tournament last week. The Huskies won all three of their games in the tournament to reach 40 wins on the year.

On Monday, the Huskies shut down Vestavia Hills 4-0, as Sara Phillips threw a no-hitter in a complete game gem. She struck out 14 batters on the night went 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run. Olivia Faggard homered as well and Kenleigh Cahalan drove in a run with a double as well.

Hewitt edged Spain Park 2-1 on Tuesday to clinch its spot in the area championship and at the regional tournament. The Huskies scored both of their runs in the fifth inning on Cahalan’s double. Phillips was nearly flawless in the circle yet again, as she allowed only a solo home run in 7 innings, striking out 15 batters.

Phillips hit a walk-off homer in the eighth inning Wednesday evening to lift the Huskies to the title and a 5-4 win over Spain Park. Riley Tyree had a big night at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Sarah Hindman threw the first 6 innings, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits. Phillips came in and threw the last 2 innings.

Hewitt-Trussville plays in the 7A East Regional this Thursday at Sand Mountain Park in Albertville.

Molly Davidson will play in the state tournament this Monday and Tuesday in Huntsville.
