The Trussville Red Huskies recently won the Homewood Invitational youth baseball tournament. The Red Huskies began the final day of action by winning consecutive games against Vestavia and Homewood, the host team. After a break, the boys easily beat the top seed, Oak Mountain, to earn their way into the championship. The Red Huskies won the championship by beating Mountain Brook 18-2.

“It felt really good to give these boys a chance to play baseball this summer after their regular season was canceled due to the pandemic,” head coach Tim Cornwell said. “I’m so proud of these boys. They’ve worked hard the last few weeks during hot summer days, and that hard work paid off tonight.”

Assistant coach Johnny Amari agreed with Cornwell, adding that it was satisfying to beat all of the “over the mountain” teams to bring the hardware back to Trussville.

Players on the team include Colton Cornwell, Ryker Jones, Breeden Gallant, Jackson Mann, Beck Knapp, Walker Jones, Garrett Wooten, Parker Dove, Lucas Williamson, Vinny Amari and Bryson Priest. The team was coached by Cornwell, Amari, JB Priest and Trace Gallant.
