Several athletes from Hewitt-Trussville High School were recognized for strong spring seasons in 2018. Four softball players and two baseball players were named all-state, and three soccer players were named all-metro.

Hannah Borden, Crystal Maze, Molly Cobb and Tate Moseley were all named to the all-state team after leading the Hewitt-Trussville softball team back to the state tournament for the first time since 2015.

All four players eclipsed double digit home runs for the Huskies, who finished with 70 home runs on the season — one shy of the state record for a single season.

Borden and Maze, the catcher and third baseman, respectively, were given first-team honors. Borden hit for a .463 average, belting 18 home runs and driving in 75 runs on the year. The junior and Southern Miss commit was named to the North-South All-Star Game in July as well.

Maze, a freshman, also posted great numbers at the plate. She hit .483 with 10 homers and 67 RBIs, while also racking up 73 hits and stealing 24 bases. She struck out just six times all season.

Moseley and Cobb were given second-team honors for their contributions. Moseley, an Auburn signee, finished her stellar high school career with another big year. The leadoff-hitting center fielder hit .416 with 11 home runs, 45 RBIs, 52 hits and 63 runs scored.

Cobb was a big part of the team in the pitching circle and at the plate. As a pitcher, the junior posted a 17-5 record with a 2.27 earned run average in 108 innings. With the bat in her hands, she hit .518 and posted an outstanding .606 on-base percentage. She also belted 11 homers and drove home 69 runs.

The Huskies baseball team, which finished as the Class 7A runner-up, was represented by pitcher/first baseman Carson Skipper and second baseman Tyler Mauldin on the all-state team, with both garnering first-team selections.

Skipper, who is heading to Auburn, pitched 88 2/3 innings for the Huskies on the year, compiling a 9-3 record, 1.50 ERA and 133 strikeouts. He was also a key piece to the lineup, as he hit .406 and drove in 49 runs. Mauldin racked up 46 hits and 41 RBIs on the year.

Three members of the Hewitt-Trussville girls soccer team were selected to the Birmingham all-metro team.

Junior center back Kelly Dunn received a second-team selection, while sophomore forward Jordan Lynn and senior defender Bri Davis both received honorable mentions. Dunn started every game this season and scored four goals. Lynn finished the season with 12 goals ,and Davis finished with eight. All three were team captains in addition to their on-field contributions.

Coach Nick Holt said all three of them played a big role in their season this spring.

“Bri Davis and Kelly Dunn were absolutely phenomenal leaders. The thing I loved about them is they led by their actions every single day as well as words,” Holt said. “Jordan is a special player; not only does she have the technical skills, she is tactically smart and always made her teammates better.”

This fall, Davis will be continuing her soccer career at Mississippi College. Lynn is verbally committed to Mercer University.
