The Hewitt-Trussville High School track and field team wrapped up their 2022 season at the state outdoor meet May 5-7 in Gulf Shores.

Hewitt-Trussville’s girls placed third in the Class 7A competition while the boys team finished fourth. Hoover and Vestavia Hills swept the top two spots in both meets.

On the girls side, Hoover blew everyone away, scoring 120 points to Vestavia’s 85 points. Hewitt’s girls finished with 74 points, edging fourth-place Auburn by a single point.

The boys meet came down to the wire, as Hoover edged Vestavia 126-114. Auburn was a close third with 104 points. Hewitt grabbed 51.5 points to finish just ahead of fifth-place Huntsville, which had 50 points.

Hewitt-Trussville had two individual winners at state. Tanveer Raza set a state record with a shot put throw of 59 feet, 4.75 inches, to win the competition. Jaggerd Moore had a strong meet, winning the high jump by clearing 6-6 and finishing third in the triple jump.

Several Huskies ended up on the podium. On the girls side, Brianna Beckham finished second in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Maci Mills wound up second in the 800 and fourth in the 1,600. Tori Mack was second in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles. Madisyn Hawkins had an impressive showing as well, finishing second in the discus competition and fourth in shot put.

The girls 4x400-meter relay team placed third as well.

Moore’s third-place finish in the triple jump was the only other Huskies’ individual result to earn a podium slot, but there were still several strong performances. Tristan Teer was fourth in the 3,200 and seventh in the 1,600. Ethan Womack earned points in multiple events and the boys 4x100 relay team finished fourth in the final.

James Hammonds: eighth in 100

Avery Cahoon: eighth in 800 and 1,600

Catherine Asbury: seventh in high jump

Michael Igbinoghene: eighth in long jump

Daniel James: eighth in pole vault
