HS sports update: Huskies baseball advances
BASEBALL
Hewitt-Trussville
The Hewitt-Trussville baseball team pulled off a thrilling comeback in Game 3 of a first-round Class 7A playoff series against Hoover. Click here for a recap of Game 3 and here for a recap of Friday’s split doubleheader from our sister paper, the Hoover Sun.
SOFTBALL
Hewitt-Trussville
The Hewitt-Trussville softball team fell to Helena, 5-3, on Tuesday. Tate Moseley homered and scored a pair of runs in the contest. The Huskies fell to Springville on Wednesday, 6-4. Hannah Borden homered in the game.
The Huskies will host the Class 7A, Area 7 tournament on Tuesday and Thursday.
Pinson Valley
The Pinson Valley softball team played in Moody’s round robin tournament on Saturday. The Indians began the day with a 3-0 win over Douglas. Hope Cole pitched five shutout innings, allowing just four hits. Moody then knocked off Pinson Valley, 17-6. Graci Graves doubled and drove home two runs for the Indians. The Indians capped off the day with an 8-4 win over Oak Grove. Mollie Peoples homered in the contest and Ka’Mya Hampton notched two hits and two RBIs.
Pinson Valley will play in the Class 6A, Area 12 tournament on Wednesday at Gardendale.
Clay-Chalkville
The Clay-Chalkville softball team will compete in the Class 6A, Area 12 tournament on Wednesday at Gardendale.
SOCCER
Hewitt-Trussville
The Hewitt-Trussville boys soccer team wrapped up its area schedule with a 2-1 win over Grissom on Wednesday, but fell short of the playoffs. Both boys and girls teams visited Oak Mountain on Thursday to conclude their seasons. The girls fell 1-0 and the boys dropped a 3-0 decision.
Clay-Chalkville
The Clay-Chalkville girls soccer team’s season ended on Friday, as the Lady Cougars fell to Gardendale, 10-0, in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs. The Clay-Chalkville boys soccer team advanced to the second round of the playoffs with a 4-3 win in double overtime over Carver-Birmingham on Saturday. The Cougars will host McAdory in the second round.
