HS Hoops Update: Husky Thanksgiving Tournament begins

Hewitt-Trussville

The Hewitt-Trussville basketball teams began their weeks last Thursday with a trip to Center Point. The Lady Huskies put together a solid performance and won, 67-37. Amiya Payne led the way with 24 points. Leah Harrison added 16 points and Morgan Kirk chipped in 14. The boys also won, topping the Eagles, 56-47. Cameron Glover continued his strong start, pouring in 22 points. Brandon Copeland added 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Husky Thanksgiving Tournament powered by Trussville Gas and Water began on Saturday, and the Lady Huskies get started on Monday with a game against Covington (Tennessee) at 1 p.m., followed by another game later that day. The tournament concludes on Tuesday.

Clay-Chalkville

The Clay-Chalkville girls team lost both of its games last week. The Lady Cougars fell to Mountain Brook, 50-40, on Thursday. They began play in the Spartan Turkey Jam at Mountain Brook on Saturday and suffered a 60-31 defeat to Vestavia Hills, as they fell to 0-3 on the season. Clay plays Jackson-Olin at 7 p.m. Monday and concludes tournament play on Tuesday.

The boys team will begin its season on Monday at Vestavia Hills in the Sneaky Pete’s Rebel Classic.

Pinson Valley

The Pinson Valley basketball teams began their week last Tuesday with a trip to Fairfield. The Lady Indians battled back from a deficit to take the lead in the fourth quarter, but ultimately fell, 64-51. The boys team opened its season that night and lost, 69-67. The Indians rallied from a double-digit deficit to tie the game with 40 seconds to play. Kam Woods led the team with 33 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Marques McConico had 10 points and four rebounds, while Victor Smith chipped in eight points and four boards.

The Lady Indians knocked off Hueytown, 61-44, on Thursday. Kaitlyn Ambrose poured in 24 points, while Treasure Clark scored 14 and Courtney Whatley added 13. The Lady Indians began their run in the Husky Thanksgiving Tournament on Saturday and fell to Wenonah, 55-21. They play Sidney Lanier at 4 p.m. Monday and conclude tournament play on Tuesday.

Pinson Valley’s boys begin play in the N2Hoops Invitational at Bob Jones on Monday, when the Indians face Madison Academy at 3:30 p.m. The tournament runs through Wednesday.
