HS Hoops Update: Basketball season begins

Over the course of the high school basketball season, Cahaba Sun will provide weekly updates of the season.


Hewitt-Trussville

The Hewitt-Trussville basketball teams began their seasons on Saturday at the Ramsay Tip-Off Showcase, as both teams played Ramsay. The girls fell, 60-41, to one of the top teams in Class 5A. Morgan Kirk led the team with 14 points. Amiya Payne filled the stat sheet, posting 12 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks in the game. The boys lost a tight one in overtime, 65-64, as Cameron Glover scored 27.

This week, the Huskies are at Center Point on Thursday. On Saturday, the girls begin play as the host team of the Bryant Bank Classic.


Clay-Chalkville

The Clay-Chalkville girls basketball team began its season last week in the McAdory Lady Jacket Tip-Off Invitational. The Lady Cougars fell to Oak Mountain, 59-38.

This week, the girls host Mountain Brook on Thursday and begin play in the Spartan Turkey Jam at Mountain Brook on Saturday.


Pinson Valley

The Pinson Valley girls basketball team also played in the McAdory Lady Jacket Tip-Off Invitational. The Lady Indians began their season with a 67-63 win over Hueytown last Monday, as Treasure Clark led the way with 14 points. Courtney Whatley had 13 points and Kaitlyn Ambrose chipped in 11 to join Clark in double figures. Ashly Robinson scored nine. On Tuesday, the Lady Indians fell to McAdory, 59-16.

This week, Pinson Valley hosts Fairfield on Tuesday, as the boys team also begins its season. The girls travel to Hueytown on Thursday and begin play in Hewitt-Trussville’s Bryant Bank Classic on Saturday.
