HS Hoops Update: Regular season comes to close

Hewitt-Trussville

The Hewitt-Trussville basketball teams wrapped up the regular season last week, beginning with a sweep over Pinson Valley on Monday night. The Lady Huskies cruised past the Indians 72-42. Erica Jones led the way with 16 points and six rebounds, while Amiya Payne also had 16 points to go along with five assists and three steals. Morgan Kirk added 14 points. The boys pulled off a 76-75 win over Pinson Valley, one of the top teams in Class 6A.

The Huskies finished things off on Friday with a sweep of Center Point. The girls picked up a 68-39 win over the Eagles, and the boys won 57-48 in overtime.

The Lady Huskies completed the regular season with a 17-9 record and will face Vestavia Hills on Wednesday in the Class 7A, Area 6 tournament at Spain Park. The game is set for 5 p.m., with the final to be played on Friday at 6 p.m.

The boys team is 9-14 on the year and will play at Mountain Brook in the area tournament, with the final to be played Saturday at 6 p.m.


Clay-Chalkville

The Clay-Chalkville basketball teams hosted Shades Valley last Monday to begin the final week of the regular seasons. The Lady Cougars suffered their first loss in over a month, falling 52-42 to the Mounties. Clay’s boys pulled out a 57-52 victory, led by Dayon Bryant’s 16 points. Jaylin Mack posted 15 points, and Daniel Beachem scored 11.

Clay-Chalkville traveled to Vestavia Hills on Thursday, with the Rebels prevailing in both contests. The Lady Cougars fell 47-38, despite 12 points apiece from Erica Lockhart and Aukeivah Tellis. The boys team suffered a 53-36 defeat.

The boys team finished the regular season with a 13-13 record and will face Pell City in the Class 6A, Area 12 tournament on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Pinson Valley High School. Pinson Valley will play the winner in the final on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The Lady Cougars will face the winner of Pell City and Pinson Valley in the final of the area tournament on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.


Pinson Valley

The Pinson Valley basketball teams took a trip to Hewitt-Trussville on Monday night, dropping both varsity contests. The Lady Indians fell 72-42, and the boys dropped a tight 76-75 decision. In the boys game, Kam Woods led the way for Pinson with 26 points and four assists. Geordon Pollard posted 20 points, seven rebounds, four blocks and four steals. GaQuincy McKinstry ended up with 19 points and five boards.

The boys team hosted Midfield on Wednesday, falling 73-67. Woods led the team with 21 points and five rebounds. Pollard tallied 16 points, five boards and four blocks to join him in double figures. Horace Wilson had eight points and 11 rebounds, McKinstry registered nine points and three assists, and Marques McConico finished with eight points and three rebounds.

The Indians completed the regular season on Friday at Mountain Brook. The Lady Indians fell 54-37 and were led by Kaitlyn Ambrose’s 10 points. The boys dropped a 101-75 decision to the Spartans.

The Pinson boys have lost three straight but finished the regular season with an 18-9 record and will host the Class 6A, Area 12 tournament. The Indians will play either Pell City or Clay-Chalkville in the final on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The Lady Indians have a 5-20 record and will play Pell City at Clay-Chalkville on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the area tournament. The final is set for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
