Cheer teams qualify for state

Hewitt-Trussville High School’s competition cheer team traveled to the Birmingham CrossPlex on Nov. 14 and delivered two outstanding performances. The Huskies finished third in the North Super Regional in the traditional portion of the competition. Coach Amy Gay’s squad qualified for state in both the traditional and gameday divisions.

Hewitt-Trussville Middle School also put forth an outstanding effort. The Huskies finished in first place in the large middle school division.

Both teams competed in the state championships Dec. 14. The high school team also competed in the UCA Southern Championship event over the weekend of Nov. 24. The Huskies finished third in the gameday routine and fourth in the traditional routine, with both qualifying for Nationals as a result. The national competition will be in February in Orlando.
