Scholars Bowl students qualify for national competition

Members of the HTHS Scholars Bowl team have qualified for the National Academic Challenge in New Orleans at the end of May.

Their team accomplishments include a second-place trophy at the Buckhorn Early Season Invitational and a fourth-place trophy at the William Rufus King Memorial Tournament for the junior varsity team. The varsity team earned its first victories against recent state champions Spain Park and Gadsden City high schools, as well as a third-place finish at the LAMP Invitational and a new school record of 405 points per game at the ASCA District Competition.

Team members Brennan Boeker, Desi Gillespie and Logan Cobb have all been named leading scorers in tournaments this season, and Katie Musulman holds the school records for most games played and most correct answers to toss-up questions.

The HTHS Scholars Bowl team is currently raising funds for travel, hotel and tournament fees to attend the 2017 National Academic Challenge. This is the first time in school history that a Hewitt-Trussville team has been invited to compete on a national level.
