HTHS varsity Scholars Bowl wins 1st tournament

The Hewitt-Trussville High School varsity Scholars Bowl team won the National Academic Quiz Tournaments 2020 LAMP Invitational on Jan. 18. The victory was Hewitt-Trussville’s first Scholars Bowl tournament win in program history.

Hewitt-Trussville posted a 7-1 record and 2,990 points. Evan Moore led the team with 48 points per game. J.P. Campbell, Juliana Eberhardt and Sarah Prince also made key contributions to bring home the first place trophy. Hewitt-Trussville began the playoffs as the tournament’s No. 4 seed. The team defeated Southside High School in the first round of the playoffs.

The team went on to defeat Spain Park High School, which was the No. 1 seed in the tournament, in the second round of the playoffs. The varsity team ultimately defeated Enterprise High School for the championship trophy. Hewitt-Trussville also defeated LaGrange Academy, Smiths Station, Sylacauga and Dothan in the tournament.

The varsity team’s championship win qualified it for the 2020 NAQT National Championship in Atlanta May 22-24.
