HTHS mountain bikers win state championship

The Hewitt mountain bike team completed their fifth season in May, taking home the state championship trophy.

The final race of the season was held at Tannehill State Park on May 5, where over 500 riders raced. The Huskies won “The Feud at the Furnace” and also the state series.

The Hewitt Mountain Bike team had 50 middle and high school student-athletes this year. They swept the entire series for Division 1, winning all of their races throughout the 2019 spring season.

Top finishers from the state championship race at Tannehill include:

Varsity: Ryan Payant, 5th; Austin Hicks 6th; Noah Rigg, 8th

JV: Sam Lovin, 1st; Luke Curtis, 7th

Sophomore: Grayson Davis, 3rd

Freshman: Jacob Roper, 3rd; Zach Williams, 5th

High School Girls

JV: Izzy Haley, 4th; MaKinley Haynes, 6th

Middle School Boys

6th grade: Dalton King, 1st; Brooks Maddox, 5th

Middle School Girls

8th grade: Lillie Brittain, 3rd

7th grade: Shazie Bryant, 5th; Mary Ann Dukes, 9th
