Hewitt-Trussville mountain biking team wins 2017 state championship

The Alabama state championship mountain bike race was May 7 at Tannehill State Park, where the Hewitt-Trussville team won the race.

In addition, the Hewitt Mountain Bike Team won all five races in the series and took home the 2017 state championship trophy.

For the Tannehill Race #5, varsity boys raced four grueling laps for a total of 16.4 miles. In a sprint finish, Christian Mason took second by two-tenths of a second. 

Also in a sprint finish, Jackson Davis took third place. For the JV boys, racing three laps for a total of 12.3 miles, Brandon Weir wrapped up second place.

For the overall series out of five races, the following riders placed top 10 in the state for their categories:

Varsity boys: Jackson Davis, first; Christian Mason, third; Josh White, seventh.

JV boys: Brandon Weir, second.

Sophomore boys: Noah Rigg, fourth; Austin Hicks, seventh; Ryan Payant, 10th.

Freshman boys: Andrew Mason, seventh.

Varsity girls: Christen Deason, third.

Freshman girls: Lacie Brittain, seventh.

There are 16 riders on the high school roster and 13 on the middle school roster.
