Current Hewitt-Trussville High School seniors Matthew Antkowiak and John Patrick Campbell have been selected to attend the 2020 Alabama’s Boys State.

Boys State is operated by the American Legion Department of Alabama. Since 1937, American Legion Alabama Boys State has taught high school students democracy and citizenship by allowing them to experience it as they establish their own mock governments and serve in those positions of leadership.

Antkowiak competes with the Hewitt-Trussville High School cross-country team and has served on the Student Council Association. He was nominated for application by Hewitt-Trussville High School.

John Patrickis one of this year’s Hewitt-Trussville High School marching band drum majors and has also served on the Student Council Association. He was nominated for application by American Legion SSG Michael Wesley Hosey Post 205 Clay-Trussville.

Typically, the program is held in the summer following the students’ junior year, but due to COVID-19, the weeklong program that is held on the campus of the University of Alabama was postponed.

Antkowiak and Campbell, along with the other delegates chosen for 2020, have been invited to participate in the summer of 2021.
