Three Hewitt-Trussville High School students were accepted into the Legacy program. Legacy is a free program, sponsored by the National Science Foundation, to provide preparatory experiences for African-American young women who are enrolled in the Advanced Placement CS Principles course.

Student participants received training last summer about AP CSP before they actually started taking the course in the fall. Participants were also provided a stipend over the summer and academic year.

Samuela Frimpong, Lina Okorley and Ruth Okorley were accepted into the inaugural student cohort for summer 2019.
