Alabama Chapter P of the P.E.O. Sisterhood is pleased to announce that Anna Harden of Trussville, the chapter’s candidate for a Star Scholarship, is the recipient of a $2,500 award.

“A homeschooled student, Anna is our first candidate without a traditional, public school education,” said Renee Booker, the chapter’s Star Scholarship chairman. “She is a special young woman who is already reaching for the stars.”

A pianist, athlete, reading scholar and painter, Anna serves as chairman of the Junior Board of Alabama Friends of Cystic Fibrosis. She was instrumental in the formation of a one-on-one weekly mentoring program for middle school girls at her church and is an active volunteer in her community as well.

Established in 2009, Star provides $2,500 scholarships for exceptional high school senior women pursuing a college education. Candidates must be recommended by a P.E.O. chapter and exhibit excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service and a potential for future success.

Anna was recommended to Chapter P by her piano teacher and P.E.O. member, Gayle Glenn.
