The Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Maple Leaf Run will be held on Oct. 28 at the Mall in Downtown Trussville, 225 Parkway Drive. The 5K will begin at 8 a.m., and the kids fun-run will begin at 9 a.m.

According to the chamber website, the 5K course winds past the new Cahaba Elementary School and along Chalkville Mountain Road. The race starts and finishes at the Mall.

Diane Poole, chamber of commerce executive director, said the Maple Leaf Run has taken place since the 1980s.

“This is just a great way to keep folks in shape,” Poole said.

Registration for the 5K costs $35 in advance and $40 on race day. Fun-run registration is $10. The first 300 runners to sign up will receive a commemorative race T-shirt.

Jeff Rhodes, 30, of Birmingham won last year’s 5K in 15 minutes, 45 seconds. Erica Speegle, 36, of Birmingham was the top female finisher in 16:51.
