With football season fast approaching, Hewitt-Trussville High School’s head football coach Josh Floyd will speak to the community one week prior to kickoff during the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon Aug. 16. The luncheon, sponsored by First Commercial Bank, will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Trussville Civic Center, located at 5381 Trussville-Clay Road.

The Huskies kick off their season the following week at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, against Cedar Grove High School from Georgia at the Hoover Met. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN.

“It’s an exciting thing for us and the team,” Floyd said. “We get a chance to showcase our entire community, and that’s a great thing for everybody, band and cheer. It’s a big time opportunity for us.”

Floyd said he looks forward to talking about the ESPN game and talking about his team and the expectations for the 2018 season when he speaks to the chamber for the first time in two years.

“There’s a lot of people in the community who are excited about this upcoming season,” Floyd said. “My goal is, I want to try to introduce everyone to our team and try to give everybody a lot of information on our guys. We’ve got a lot of exciting stuff happening. It’s such a great opportunity to thank all of these people.”

Floyd is entering his fifth season as the Huskies’ head coach. He has led HTHS to the playoffs each season since taking over the program in 2014. Aside from a 5-6 first season and 6-5 second season, Hewitt Trussville has posted back-to-back unbeaten regular seasons and region titles the last two years, finishing with 11-1 records in the second round of the AHSAA Class 7A playoffs both years. It is the first repeat 10-win seasons since three straight from 1990 to 1992, and one shy of the program’s most wins (12) in 1992.

Each month, the chamber luncheon begins with a 30-minute network development time during which members and guests can network and exchange business cards with the estimated 80-100 individuals expected to attend. After lunch, the chamber will honor its monthly Customer Service Award winners. Door prizes will also be given away.

To register, visit trussvillechamber.com or contact June Mathews by phone at 655-7535 or email june.mathews@trussvillechamber.com.

Cost for the luncheon is $17, with a processing fee if paying by credit card. Online registration closes at midnight on Monday, Aug. 13, but the chamber office will accept registration by phone until noon Tuesday, Aug. 14. All non-members must pay in advance.
