Clearbranch United Methodist Church will host its fifth annual Golf Classic on Monday, May 7. The scramble style tournament will take place at Grayson Valley Country Club.

All proceeds will help students in the church’s youth group attend BigStuf Summer Camp in June. The camp, located in Panama City, Florida, costs $400 per student to attend.

Clearbranch UMC Director of Student Ministries Chase Higginbotham said about 80 students will go on the trip at the end of June.

“Some families can pay up front, but some kids need scholarships,” Higginbotham said. “Others are out there getting money raised.”

Students in grades 6-12 from local schools — including Springville, Hewitt-Trussville, Clay-Chalkville and Pinson — will take part in the trip.

Teams can have up to four players at a cost of $100 per player, or $400 per team. Sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses and individuals. Higginbotham said the most popular sponsorship is a $100 tee box, which includes a sign with the sponsor’s logo.

On the day of the tournament, registration begins at 12:30 p.m. with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start.

“Our heart in this is for these kids to get to go to summer camp and hear the gospel,” Higginbotham said. “We’ve been to this camp before, and all the support goes a long way.”
