Trussville resident Caitlin Whitworth received the prestigious Thomasine McGehee Award for Most Outstanding Student age 12 and under in Alabama, given by the Alabama Federation of Music Clubs, in April.

Caitlin has been a piano student of Betty Bridges for six years and actively participates in the Betty’s Young Musicians Junior Music Club.

This award is based on the number of Superior ratings students receive in festivals, award cups in any genre and other musical activities. Caitlin has 18 Superiors, four first cups, one second cup and has served as secretary, vice president and president of Betty's Young Musicians JMC; participated in National Music Week by making posters; attended AFMC Junior Conventions; and has won six of the 11 High Point Trophies awarded in her teacher's studio.

Caitlin is homeschooled through Cahaba Academy and participated in their 'Got Talent' at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and she participates in community service by putting on short programs at retirement homes.

Caitlin was awarded a framed certificate and her name placed on a large plaque with previous winners. She also received cash awards from AFMC and her teacher at the May 19 recital.
