The Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce will continue its fundraising efforts for scholarships benefiting community students with its 11th annual golf tournament June 26 at Pine Tree Country Club.

Sponsored by Ridout’s Funeral Home of Trussville, the event will have an 8 a.m. shotgun start, chamber Executive Director Diane Poole said.  The entry fee is $175 per person or $600 for a foursome and includes green fees, range balls, cart, lunch from Moe’s BBQ and $70 in pro shop credit to be spent at the participant’s discretion. There will also be a chance to win $10,000 with a hole-in-one sponsored by Courtesy Buick GMC.

According to Poole, proceeds from the tournament will go to the chamber’s scholarship fund as well as other chamber programs.

“Our scholarships are for high school and home school students and are $1,000 each,” Poole said. “In recent years, the scholarships have been renewable for up to four years with a B average or better.”

Since 2009, the chamber has given more than $40,000 in scholarships and renewals with both academic achievement and community service as factors considered when the funds are awarded.

According to Poole, more than 100 participants are expected for the June 26 event.

“Our golfers return for our tournament year after year, and they just love receiving the pro shop credit, which makes our event unique,” she said.  “Plus, we just have so much fun.”
