Trussville First United Methodist Church will once again celebrate the birth of Jesus with a live nativity scene this Christmas season. The performance will be Sunday, Dec. 16, from 5-7 p.m. on the church’s front lawn at 120 N. Chalkville Road.

“The church’s live nativity is truly a special celebration of the season,” said Drake Roberts, minister of youth. “With the leadership of Bill Fagan, one of our incredible church members, it’s awesome to see the event come together.”

Approximately 20 youths will portray Mary, Joseph, the angel, shepherds and the wise men through the first hour of the event, with the Seekers Sunday School class and other members of the church portraying the characters of the story the second hour. Live animals will once again be used, with some opportunities to pet the animals.

Music for the event will be provided by the Chancel Choir, Jubilant Ringers bell choir and Brass4Him, a brass ensemble including members of other churches. Small vocal or instrumental ensembles will also contribute.

“Although there is a festive atmosphere, the music is primarily hymns and other sacred songs to reflect the holiness of the nativity of Jesus,” said Debbie Woods, who helps organize the event.

Free hot chocolate is provided at the event.
