The City of Trussville has planned six events across the first half of 2020 to celebrate the city’s Bicentennial.

The Trussville Bicentennial Celebration events are planned to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the founding of Trussville, a time to celebrate the stories of Trussville’s people, places and path to becoming a city.

The first event is slated for Saturday, Jan. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cahaba Elementary School and Heritage Hall.

The day’s events will kick off at 10 a.m. with a welcome message from Trussville Mayor Buddy Choat and singing from the Cahaba Elementary School SHINE Choir in the Cahaba Elementary School gymnasium.

Visitors will be able to tour the historic school building, constructed in the wake of the Great Depression in the 1930s. Fourth- and fifth-grade students will showcase their Trussville 360 Project, a virtual reality demonstration that brings Trussville’s historic past into the future. Visitors will be able to participate every 30 minutes. The Magnolia Elementary School choir will also sing, and student artwork will be displayed.

ACTA Theatre will host a play at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Trussville’s past and present days. Heritage Hall will open at 10 a.m. for tours as well as serve a bicentennial-themed sheet cake.

Should inclement weather become a factor for Saturday’s events, updated event times will be released.

Remaining events are planned for Feb. 8, March 14, April 11, May 9 and June 13.

Additional information about each of those events will soon be released.

Edit: Due to the rest of severe weather, this event has been rescheduled for January 25. The times for that day remain the same.
