Trussville City Schools Board of Education members Kim DeShazo and Mark Sims were recently recognized for earning Level 1 Academy Achievement from the Alabama Association of School Boards. AASB’s “school” for school board members provides ongoing training on important education, legal and governance issues. School board members are automatically enrolled in the School Board Member Academy and are encouraged to engage in leadership development opportunities, according to AASB.

Academy participants can strive for four achievement levels. Upon completing the academy, school board members who continue to develop their boardsmanship skills annually can attain the distinction of Master School Board Member and ultimately have their names added to AASB’s Master Honor Roll. AASB has served school boards across Alabama since its inception in 1949.
