The Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club has named its Don Haisten Students and Teachers of the Month for December from Hewitt-Trussville High School and Clay-Chalkville High School.

The Student of the Month from HTHS is Nathan Kay, a junior. Kay participates in football, FBLA, theatre, Civil Air Patrol and Boy Scouts of America. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, fishing and video games.

Kay wanted to recognize football coach Ben Ramer as his most influential teacher.

“Both in the classroom and on the field, Coach Ramer has given me the tools to be successful not only in school but in life. His encouragement to push me to be the best has been invaluable,” Kay said.

Erica Melville is a senior at Clay-Chalkville High School. She is a member of the dance team, CCHS ambassador program, National Honor Society, Hugh O’Brian Leadership program and Big Brothers Big Sisters. She was also recognized as a Cougar Character Award winner, Most Outstanding Electrical Student, Most Outstanding Junior and Most Outstanding Sophomore. During Melville’s free time, she takes welding classes at Jefferson State, tap dances, plays golf, spends time with her brothers, reads and runs with her dogs.

Melville chose electrical teacher, William White, as her Teacher of the Month.

“Mr. White has helped me tremendously with welding and opportunities to further my knowledge,” she said.
