Clearbranch United Methodist Church will host their sixth annual golf tournament fundraiser May 6 at Grayson Valley Country Club. The scramble-style event will begin with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start followed by dinner, an awards ceremony and silent auction.

Funds raised from the event will go to assist the youth group on their mission trip to inner city Memphis to work with Street Reach Ministries, an organization that hosts Backyard Bible Clubs in inner city neighborhoods.

“The last time we went there was two summers ago,” said Chase Higginbotham, director of student ministries at Clearbranch UMC. “We ran two Bible Club sites. We are hoping to take at least 60 people this year so we can run four sites. We put our students in leadership roles to teach Bible stories, do crafts, lead songs and work game stations. We put a lot on them and expect a lot out of them.”

In the afternoons after Bible Club, the group will do a laundromat ministry and visit nursing homes. Higginbotham said their goal is just to love people.

The trip will take place from June 23-28 and is for students in sixth through 12th grade. The money raised at the golf tournament will help provide scholarships for kids who can’t afford to go and also to buy snacks, supplies and all of the materials the group will need for the week.
