The 13th annual Miss Hewitt Husky Pageant, which benefits the Hewitt-Trussville middle school and high school band programs, will be Saturday, Feb. 9, in the HTHS auditorium.

The pageant features a beauty walk and is open to girls in preschool through eighth grade. Pageant Director Tim Gann said the event is one of the bands’ biggest annual fundraisers.

“Athletics are so important, to me especially, but I think this program is great because it highlights the band,” Gann said.

The entry fee is $60 per contestant, with discounts for multiple sibling entries, and the entry deadline is Feb. 1.

Contestants also can register for an optional instruction session, held Feb. 8 from 5-7 p.m., for $10.

Gann said the pageant averages 75 contestants, though participation has varied by year. This is the first time the event will be held in February rather than in the fall.

“We kicked it to February to see if we would have better turnout,” Gann said.

The pageant will begin at 1 p.m. for the preschool through fourth-grade divisions. Grades five through eight will follow at 4 p.m.

Pageant tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. One adult ticket is included with contestant entry.

Tickets and flowers can be purchased at the door.

“We always have great support from the community,” Gann said.
