The annual Maple Leaf Run hosted by the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce is set for Saturday, Oct. 27. Funds raised from the event go toward the citywide breast cancer research initiative “Turn Trussville Pink,” as well as the chamber’s scholarship fund.

The 5K begins at 8 a.m. near the tennis courts at 255 Parkway Drive and winds through the streets of historic downtown Trussville. Registration fees for adults are $35 through Oct. 26 and $40 onsite.

Youth younger than 15 are also encouraged to get involved through the kids’ fun run, which will immediately follow the adult 5K. With a registration fee of $10, the youth run kicks off at 9 a.m. and is a two-lap course around the courtyard of Cahaba Elementary School.

Diane Poole is executive director forthe TACC and hopes funds raised forbreast cancer research through the Maple Leaf Run will honor the legacy of Kathy White, the co-creator and coordinator of Turn Trussville Pink.

“Kathy’s enthusiasm and willingness to work so hard to bring awareness to such a dreaded disease made everybody she met want to help. She made such a difference in our community and we want to honor her memory at this year’s event,” Poole said.
