The 39th annual Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce Maple Leaf Run, presented by The Trak Shak, was held on Oct. 27 at The Mall in historic downtown Trussville.

A portion of the proceeds from the event go to the chamber’s scholarship fund and also to Turn Trussville Pink, a community project in support of breast cancer awareness and research. Joshua White, founder of Turn Trussville Pink (TTP), was on-hand for the check presentation of $750 in memory of Kathy White, a fellow TTP founder who passed away on Aug. 5.

Kathy White was also instrumental in the creation and operation of the AKW Foundation, the non-profit organization behind TTP.

New to this year’s race was the “Couch to Maple Leaf” training, where those who wanted to compete in a 5K could prepare in the weeks leading up to the race. Race producers also encouraged adults to walk the one-mile event as the younger ones competed on the same course for medals.

Medals were awarded in each age group, as well as overall in the 5K and kids’ runs, plus master’s awards for the age 40+ runners in the 5K.

In the 5K, overall male winners were: Phillip Moore, 1st place; Marcus Harris, 2nd place; and Diamond Vrocher, 3rd place.

Overall female winners were Reagan Edwards, 1st place; Lesley Martens, 2nd place; and Hilary Vrocher, 3rd place.

Master’s winners were J. Benoit and Heather Dykes. Overall and master’s winners received gift cards from The Trak Shak in addition to medals.

Kids’ run winners were:

Boys age 10-14: Anay Patel, 1st place

Boys age 9 and under: Titus Wallick, 1st place; Carter Choat, 2nd place; and Andrew Woyak, 3rd place.

Girls age 9 and under, Carolynn Emmerich, 1st place; Lindsey Key, 2nd place; and Olivia Wilkins, 3rd place.

Puttin’ On the Ritz D.J. Service provided entertainment after the race, and Independence Place helped to stuff the runners’ packets.
