Students and staff at Magnolia Elementary wore blue and yellow attire in honor of Trussville Down Syndrome Day, which was proclaimed recently by the Trussville City Council and Trussville Mayor Buddy Choat. Magnolia Elementary Principal Phyllis Faust discussed the proclamation to the entire school over morning announcements. The mayor and council proclaimed Oct. 1 as Down Syndrome Day and October as National Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Down syndrome is the most frequently occurring chromosomal disorder and is the leading cause of intellectual and developmental delay in the United States.
