This year’s Trussville Freedom Celebration on July 4 will also mark the 10th anniversary of the local event, which has grown to more than 10,000 in attendance.

Held at the Historic Trussville Mall in front of Cahaba Elementary School and free of charge, the festival will offer food, fireworks, live music, an array of children’s activities and donated door prizes drawn approximately every 20 minutes.

The Freedom Celebration is sponsored by First Baptist Church Trussville and title sponsors Hardy Engineering and Engineering Design Group.

According to Jamie Chappell, assistant to First Baptist Church Executive Pastor Lance Pate and Pastor Buddy Champion, vendors will open at 5:30 p.m.

“There will be vendors with a huge variety of food available including gourmet grilled cheese, pizza, barbecue, grilled chicken and pork, and lots of delicious dessert items,” Chappell said.

Entertainment by local musicians will begin at 6 p.m., Chappell said.

“Then our headliner, Act of Congress, takes the stage followed by the fireworks spectacular at 9 p.m.,” she said.

Chappell encourages those attending to bring chairs and blankets and to expect an evening of both fun and relaxation.

“The Trussville Freedom Celebration is considered a great small-town event, but you’ll meet people from all over,” she said. “And it all began because the First Baptist Church Trussville wanted to reach out to the community, bringing everyone together for fun, food, fellowship and an opportunity to celebrate our patriotism on our country’s Fourth.”

The event is rain or shine, so for information in case of questionable weather go to trussvillefreedomcelebration.com for updates.
