Each Valentine’s Day week, businesses and members of the Trussville community have joined together to collect food items for the Trussville Ecumenical Assistive Ministry. This year, the event known as the Love Your Neighbor Food Drive will mark its 10th year the week of Feb. 10-17.

“For the past nine years, we’ve used the Valentine’s Day theme of love to remind people to ‘love their neighbor’ and to help those in need,” TEAM volunteer Melissa Williamson said in an event press release.

While all non-perishable food or monetary donations are welcome, specific requests by TEAM this year include canned meat and fish, canned fruit, pasta, cooking oil, flour, corn meal, sugar, dried beans, cereal, breakfast food, peanut butter, jelly, saltines and macaroni and cheese.

Just as in the previous nine years, the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce will accept donations, as well as help establish drop-off locations at area schools, various local businesses and churches, including those that serve as TEAM members: Clearbranch United Methodist Church, Deerfoot Baptist Church, First Baptist Church Trussville, First Methodist Church of Trussville, Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Faith Lutheran Church, Cahaba Springs Presbyterian Church and Holy Infant of Prague Catholic Church.

Donations may also be delivered to TEAM at 147 Chalkville Road between the hours of noon-2 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday or Thursdays between 5-7 p.m. For more information about the Love Your Neighbor Food Drive, call the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce at 655-7535 or TEAM at 661-5039.
