Independence Place of Alabama will host its 5th annual Sounds of Summer event Saturday, July 13, at the Trussville Civic Center from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

The event’s $25 ticket price includes a buffet dinner, silent auction and performances by Alabama musicians from genres such as jazz, country, Broadway and rhythm & blues, as well as a feature performance by Independence Place’s day program participants.

Independence Place offers an opportunity for individuals with special needs to continue social connections and independent living education that would otherwise be eliminated after graduation from high school. The program offers participation in activities such as Bible study, bowling, a basketball league and education geared toward maintaining or growing independent living. Weekly opportunities to serve with civic groups such as TEAM are also available.

As the primary source of funding for Independence Place, all profit from Sounds of Summer directly benefits program participants. Currently at maximum enrollment with a waiting list, the organization aims to raise $15,000 at this year’s event to fund staff expansion and enhancement of facilities and programs.

Table sponsors and silent auction donations are accepted through July 10 by contacting 913-1815 or CarrieJones1@IndependencePlaceofAlabama.org. Tickets are available for purchase through July 10 at Bryant Bank, FBCT, Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce or online at IPTrussville.org
