The 39th annual Trussville City Fest will take place on Saturday, May 4.

Presented by the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce and other sponsors, the family-friendly event will be at The Mall, 225 Parkway Drive, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Visitors can enjoy family activities, a wellness area, face painting, balloons, magicians and music.

New this year will be the first annual Battle of the Bands. Chamber Executive Director Diane Poole said this was an untapped market and they felt a lot of bands would like to be part of the event.

“Those kinds of competition are popular in other places,” she said. “We opened the competition to all genres and age groups. School bands could participate or even bands who have been around for a while. We’ve had a really good response.”

There will be cash prizes for first, second and third places and for crowd favorite. The winner of the competition will be the headliner for the event.

The children’s area will be expanded this year and feature a variety of rides and games, all of which are included in the admission price. Food will be available for purchase, and Poole said there will be “a little bit of everything” including both food trucks and vendors.

Funds raised at this year’s event will go towards assisting in future chamber programs for the community. Upcoming events include two free movie nights in June and July, the Taste of Trussville in September and the chamber golf tournament in September.

Admission is $3, and children ages 6 and under and seniors 65 and older are free. For more information, visit the event website at trussvillechamber.com/chamber-events/city-fest.
