One of the wishlist items from Trussville’s 2040 Plan will soon be checked off.

The Trussville City Council on Feb. 22 authorized Mayor Buddy Choat to sign an app development agreement with OVC LLC, an Opelika-based mobile apps development company.

City of Trussville Public Relations Coordinator Stacy Frazier said the process started in 2021 after the League of Municipalities convention.

“They had a number of app companies there, so we were able to begin our comparison at that meeting,” Frazier said. “We then asked the council and department heads what all they would like to see in a city app and built our needs list from there.”

Frazier said some key features of the under-construction app will be unlimited push notifications, National Weather Service integration and weather, social media integration, community feedback, crime tip submission, alarm registration, poison control, training opportunities, service payments and more.

Frazier said the hope is that the app will be ready for iPhone and Android devices by June.

“This will provide the city a mechanism to push public safety information out and better communicate with the citizens of Trussville,” Councilor Ben Short said. “Excited to see Trussville continue to evolve through the use of technology.”
