Chamber hosts Maple Leaf Run

by

It was a cold and rainy Saturday morning, but about 80 dedicated runners and their families took part in the annual Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce Maple Leaf Run, presented by The Trak Shak. The 38th annual event was held on Oct. 28 at The Mall in historic downtown Trussville.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to the chamber’s scholarship fund and also to Turn Trussville Pink, a community project in support of breast cancer awareness and research. Joshua White, Founder of Turn Trussville Pink, was on-hand for the check presentation. A check for $500 was presented to the organization.

Medals were awarded in each age group, as well as overall in the 5K and kids’ runs, plus master’s awards for runners over age 40 in the 5K.

In the 5K, overall male winners were Marcus Harris, 1st place; Andy Poole, 2nd place; and Diamond Vrocher, 3rd place.

Overall female winners were Lori Goldweber, 1st place; Lesley Martens, 2nd place; and Mia Cane, 3rd place.

Master’s winners were Jeffrey Jessen and Kathy Langley. Overall and master’s winners received gift cards from The Trak Shak in addition to medals.

In the kids’ run, the top finishers among boys were: age 10-14, Jack Pate, 1st place; age 9 and under, Andrew Walker, 1st place; Charlie Wood, 2nd place; and Andrew Woyak, 3rd place. In the girls’ category, winners were: age 10-14, Meah Goodell, 1st place; age 9 and under, Emmie Goodell, 1st place.

Independence Place, a faith-based non-profit organization developed to meet the social and recreational needs of adult individuals with exceptional needs, helped to stuff the runners’ packets.
