Individuals interested in old or rare coins, paper currency, antique maps and jewelry will gather for the Central Alabama Coin Show at Trussville Civic Center on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is the third-straight year the show will take place in Trussville after beginning in Pelham in the early 2000s. Admission is free.

“We’re hoping it will start to bring in people from surrounding states,” said Christopher Lambert, who coordinates the event with Dr. Carl Shory and Blair Liggins. “You can learn a lot about collecting, or if you've inherited some gold, silver or a bunch of old coins, you can find out what value it has and help you determine what's best to do with that.”

Lambert said he and many others began collecting as children with their dads. He encourages the show as a place for children to learn about coins and past U.S. currency.

This will be the first show in Trussville since the Alabama Legislature passed an exemption on the state’s 4 percent bullion sales tax, which used to be placed on the sale of U.S. coins, currency and precious metals. Lambert hopes the new law, which went into effect June 1, will bring dealers from other states.

Dealers can apply to present at the show for $70/booth. An online application is available at alabamacoinshow.com
