Biannual FUMC consignment sale returns Sept. 22-23

by

The biggest consignment sale in the community, hosted by Trussville First United Methodist Church, will commence Sept. 22.

The biannual sale is at least 13 years strong, organizer Amanda Watson said. Last year it drew about 500 consignors and 5,000 checkouts from customers, she said. Overall, it provides the community with a great source for gently worn clothing, toys, furniture and more at reasonable prices.

“It's a good mission for the community,” Watson said. “I’m surprised every single year by how many people who tell me they wouldn’t be able to buy their kids’ school clothes if they had to buy new. This is how they can afford it.”

In the fall sale, patrons will find only fall and winter clothes; in the spring sale, only spring and summer clothes. They also have maternity clothing, children’s shoes, socks, hair bows, hats, belts, backpacks, purses, games, children’s furniture and more.

A portion of the proceeds goes to the church’s children’s ministry and toward their child care center, Kids First. In the past, it has enabled the church to purchase playground and video equipment. A large portion is also donated to the local nonprofit Trussville Ecumenical Assistive Ministry, or TEAM, which provides food and clothing to those in need.

Last year’s sale raised $7,000 for TEAM, Watson said.

The sale dates are Sept. 22, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sept. 23, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Saturday, there are many items 50 percent off. The organizers usually run contests the week of the event.

It is held at the family life center (park in rear of church), at 120 N. Chalkville Road. For more information, go to their Facebook page at Trussville Methodist Consignment Sale or to trussvillemethodistconsignmentsale.com.
